The judges praised Edgeware's VCP as a "complete, distributed, power efficient, scalable caching solution for multiscreen video." They liked the fact that it includes origins and edge caches and said it will enable operators to "easily expand" into IP video delivery of their existing live and on-demand assets.
Edgeware calls the VCP one platform for all IP and multiscreen video delivery and estimates that by simplifying things, the solution can reduce capex by 50% or more on headend and network infrastructure. It enables service providers to rapidly introduce new services and add new viewers on devices.

Describing a real-world example, Edgeware said one customer used the VCP to extend its services to new multiscreen devices while consolidating delivery on a single platform, including VOD, start-over TV, catchup TV and live OTT streaming. The company tripled its subscriber base since adding VCP's Cloud DVR functionality.

Edgeware's Convoy Management Software serves as the SDN control and management component for the VCP. As such, it performs configuration and monitoring functions and assigns application-specific processes to Edgeware's Orbit servers and community hardware. The Orbit servers support wire speed delivery of up to 80 Gbps and 128,000 concurrent streams to any combination of IP and legacy QAM connected devices.
