Harmonic (NASDAQ:HLIT) is adding new capabilities to its CableOS virtualized cable access solution, which the company will demonstrate at ANGA COM 2019 this week in Cologne, Germany.

New features include:

  • Low-latency mode to improve video game quality of experience (QoE)
  • Double throughput performance with 1RU Intel servers and 100G NIC
  • Virtual segmentation with network-wide QoS capabilities
  • Simultaneous support of centralized and distributed architectures on a single core server
  • Interoperability with standard-compliant, third-party DOCSIS Remote PHY devices
  • Integration of the CableOS Pebble-1 Remote PHY Device into third-party nodes

CableOS software is designed to support the latest generation of 1-RU Intel server CPUs and 100G NIC, improving throughput. Harmonic has also added virtual segmentation with network-wide QoS capabilities to the CableOS solution, intended to allow operators to increase bandwidth on existing coaxial cable to feed Remote PHY devices without deploying fiber to the new segmentation site.

The new CableOS software is also designed to support hybrid Remote PHY operations for centralized, remote shelf and node deployments. Recently, the CableOS solution was deployed in a traditional HFC architecture with the core server in one location and 1RU CableOS Wave Remote PHY shelves deployed in remote locations.

Building on the v telemetry capabilities featured in previous versions of CableOS, the solution now provides access to Harmonic's managed network services and a web-based dashboard.
