Harmonic ProView 7100

Harmonic's ProView 7100 received high marks from judges who were thrilled that "for the first time, an operator will be able to enjoy Harmonic's legendary transcoding video quality in an all-in-one solution." They applauded the integrated IRD/re-encoder/re-multiplexer product's "class-leading" density and called the ProView 7100 a "truly standout product" that is "highly recommended."
The unified platform for transcoding, transport stream descrambling, and MPEG stream processing is intended to simplify deployment of or migration to an all-IP headend solution, Harmonic says. The hardware can be reconfigured through a firmware upgrade to accommodate new inbound video formats and codecs as the transition from SD MPEG-2 to HD AVC occurs. This fact also was praised by Diamonds judges who deemed the ProView 7100's architecture to be "future proof."Multi-format video decoding is performed with up to four stereo pairs of audio decoding, descrambling for up to four transport streams, and transcoding for up to eight channels. Harmonic's Deterministic SFN remultiplexing technology reportedly saves up to 90% of satellite or IP bandwidth since local regional programs are synchronously included in the SFN multiplex at each transmitting site. The ProView 7100 supports a variety of input options. Content is simultaneously received over DVB-S/S2, ASI and IP, which Harmonic says allows operators to maximize flexibility and optimize redundancy schemes.www.harmonicinc.comSee them at Cable-Tec EXPO, Booth 2635Return to the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews Elite.
