Envivio Muse & Halo on HP Blade Servers

Oct. 2, 2012
Judges Special RecognitionThe Envivio Muse multiscreen software transcoder and Envivio Halo Network Media Processor now are available on the HP BladeSystem and ProLiant servers. With Muse and/or Halo on the HP blade, large operators can turn an IT datacenter into a video headend. They gain the capability to provide live and offline video transcoding for distribution to any device, including iOS and Android devices, PCs with Adobe Flash or Silverlight, connected TVs and traditional MPEG-2 and AVC set-top boxes.
Envivio developed its own codecs in-house to provide quality video on each device, including 1080p HD and mobile resolutions for smartphones. Pre-processing readies the input with spatial de-noising filters, de-interlacing for multiple screens, adjustable resolutions to match display capabilities, and aspect ratio management. Muse deployed on the HP BladeSystem also performs upscaling, downscaling, HD-to-HD cross-scaling and adjusts the incoming sound level. There are up to eight audio tracks per channel.Muse On-Demand can encode HD content four times faster than real time and SD content up to 12 times faster than real time, Envivio says. The transcoding of content begins as soon as it is ingested. The Halo Network Media Processor, in turn, encrypts packages and distributes video streams for TV Everywhere services. The products together can be used in data centers to ease the transition to IPTV offerings and are "well-suited to this role" with "multiple capabilities in an integrated system for delivery of video product to the emerging multiscreen market," a Diamonds judge said.www.envivio.comSee them at Cable-Tec EXPO, Booth 1347Return to the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews Elite.
