AFL-NOYES FOCIS Fiber Optic Connector Inspection System

Oct. 2, 2012
A study by NTT-Advanced Technology indicated that 98% of cable installers reported contamination in optical connections being the root cause of a network failure. The AFL-NOYES FOCIS Fiber Optic Connector Inspection System documents fiber connector cleanliness in an effort to reduce this statistic. It combines a palm-sized DFD1 Touchscreen Tablet, a DFS1 Digital FiberScope and AFL SimpleView Plus Inspection Software to provide the inspection and analysis power of a laptop or probe solution as well as the ruggedness and lower cost of "live only" viewers.
The handheld fiber inspection solution supports an Inspect-Clean-Inspect Document workflow and the ability to capture a full-resolution image for inspection. These images can be stored in memory for later review and transferred to computers or other networks for sharing. Because of these features, the Diamonds judges believe the solution will give operators the ability to provide business customers with a "documented guarantee as to the connection quality of the fiber."In addition, image pairing enables engineers to group images as before/after cleaning, input/output, bulkhead/jumper, and as built/as found. The company says this makes it easier to see contamination, dirt, scratches or other defects.www.aflglobal.comSee them at Cable-Tec EXPO, Booth 403Return to the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews Elite.
