June 27, 2012
The San Mateo, CA, Chamber of Commerce and Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) announced that the project to upgrade the broadband network in San Mateo's downtown underground utility district has been completed. The project, announced last November and dubbed "Digital Downtown," is intended to enable local businesses in the downtown area to connect to advanced telecommunications services and high-speed Internet over a fiber-optic backbone. The expansion allows for download speeds of up to 100 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 10 Mbps. Bandwidth up to 10 Gbps will be available for businesses with the largest data needs.
