Appear TV Aims to Reconstruct IP Streams

April 18, 2012
At NAB, Appear TVannounced the launch of an IP switching technology across its range of headends. The new switch is designed for seamless switching, where two independent multicast network rings are monitored for packet loss and switched to ensure the output is the better of the two.It also features new functionality to monitor both networks simultaneously to "reconstruct" the original data on the basis that the two networks are independent and will therefore not be subject to the same degradations, such as packet loss, at exactly the same time. The "packet reconstruction" technique is intended to reduce the overhead for FEC while maintaining transmission QoS.The company also announced increased density of its range of demodulation modules, which now have double the density of its previous demodulation solutions, which integrate with all Appear TV headend chassis.
