EchoStar offers a multi-screen solution known as SlingLoaded, which utilizes Sling Media’s placeshifting technology. Placeshifting allows users to have access to all of their TV content – Live, DVR, VOD – on any Internet-connected device, anywhere in the world, including PCs, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. Sling’s placeshifting technology is known to consumers worldwide through the company’s retail Slingbox products, says EchoStar. EchoStar engineers have basically taken a Slingbox and put it inside the set-top box, creating an integrated, branded multi-screen solution for service operators. In addition to placeshifting, SlingLoaded also provides the operator with market-ready mobile apps, a branded online program guide, and remote DVR scheduling. According to EchoStar, SlingLoaded placeshifting gives operators some distinct advantages: a high-quality HD experience for subscribers, a quick-to-market solution, significant operational cost savings, and content rights through the secure and authenticated environment of the set-top box. EchoStar’s SlingLoaded solutions include HD DVRs such as the recently released Aria line of cable products, and plug-and-play devices such as the Slingbox 700U, which allows operators to add SlingLoaded capabilities to existing set-top boxes in the field via a USB connection.
