Lahey Health, an integrated health care system in northeastern Massachusetts, has implemented Comcast Business (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Ethernet network services across more than 60 locations. The deployment is intended to help Lahey Health to coordinate patient care and electronic health records (EHRs) across facilities.

Lahey Health comprises hospitals, physicians, behavioral health services, and post-acute programs including home health services, skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities, and senior care resources. The health care system includes nearly 1,400 locally based physicians throughout northeastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.

ROI Communications assisted with coordinating a unified network and services.

"With the implementation of EHRs and other technology solutions, the Lahey Health system required a strong, reliable network to share patient information, images and files across locations for superior patient care," said Joe DeStefano, president of ROI Communications. "Our long-time partnership with Comcast Business enables us to provide Lahey Health with the level of support and high-performance network infrastructure they need for smooth operations."

Comcast Business provides Lahey Health with three Ethernet Network Service (ENS) hubs in Beverly, Burlington and Winchester that connect more than 60 doctor offices and facilities with capacity ranging from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Additionally, Lahey Health uses four 1 Gbps and two 10 Gbps Ethernet Private Lines (EPLs) to connect larger off-site medical centers and IT facilities. Finally, Comcast Business provides backup connections to Lahey facilities via Business Internet services.

"Comcast Business allows us to provide services to all of our medical facilities, including those located in southern New Hampshire, as well as the reliability and ability to provide a comprehensive end-to-end solution. We have not had a location that Comcast Business cannot service," said Bernie McGrory, director of Network Services, Lahey Health. "We are able to have a primary and backup infrastructure through Comcast that strengthens our ability to maintain 24/7 operations - the backup circuit allows us to remain operational regardless of any scheduled or unplanned Comcast ENS/EPL maintenance or outage."

"Lahey Health is one of the biggest health care providers in Massachusetts, and we are committed to making sure that their network remains operational around the clock given the critical need to have patient records and information available," said Barry Bader, vice president of Comcast Business in the Greater Boston Region. "We have a true partnership with ROI Communications and Lahey Health where we work closely together to meet the needs of this growing health care provider now and into the future."
