Atlantic Broadband is increasing its Internet speeds in Aiken, SC, and surrounding areas including Graniteville, Jackson, New Ellenton and Warrenville. The company is automatically doubling downstream speeds for most of its residential Internet tiers at no additional cost. Atlantic Broadband has also introduced a new "Extreme" Internet package with downstream speeds up to 400 Mbps.

"Our customers are multitasking every day on more than a dozen connected devices in the home, so reliable, high-performance Internet is essential," said Debbie Eblen, Atlantic Broadband's vice president and general manager, South Carolina. "We are pleased to continue our investment in broadband technology to meet these needs, while providing superfast Internet speeds and enhanced value for our customers."

The speed increses are based on Atlantic Broadband's DOCSIS 3.1 upgrades in Aiken to support gigabit Internet service - GigaEdge - which the company launched there in February. That service uses Cisco's (NASDAQ:CSCO) cBR-8 CCAP and ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) customer premises equipment (CPE). Atlantic Broadband is offering a free three-month upgrade to GigaEdge for new customers for a limited period.

The company announced similar Internet upgrades in its southern Connecticut markets last month.
