More than 100 speakers will present the newest thinking around cable telecommunications deployment and innovation during the Fall Technical Forum at the SCTE/ISBE Cable-Tec Expo 2018 in Atlanta in October.

The Fall Technical Forum will feature 104 presentations in four dozen workshops - also a record - at Expo. Workshops will provide insights into eight areas: Wireline, Wireless, Customer Experience, Video, IoT, Cloud, Operations and Security.

A joint production of the SCTE/ISBE, NCTA and CableLabs, the technical workshops will serve as a forum for thought leaders from more than three dozen domestic and international operators and technology partners. Presenting companies include traditional providers of cable products and services as well as a wide range of newer participants such as Guavus, Infinera, XCellAir, Kyrio, Tata Consultancy, Momentum Telecom, Groupe Media TFO, and the University of Waterloo. The SCTE/ISBE Cable-Tec Expo 2018 Program Committee, chaired by Kevin Hart, executive vice president and chief product and technology officer for Cox Communications, selected the presenters from 261 abstract submissions.

In addition to the Fall Technical Forum presenters, nine C-Level speakers, including Hart, have been confirmed: Pat Esser, president of Cox Communications; Michael Powell, president and CEO of the NCTA; Phil McKinney, president and CEO of CableLabs; Tony Werner, president, Technology and Product, for Comcast Cable; Shirley Bloomfield, CEO of the NTCA; Rich Fickle, president and CEO of the NCTC; Matt Polka, president and CEO of the American Cable Association; and Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of the SCTE/ISBE.

"As new technologies emerge that can drive business results for the industry, more and more thought leaders recognize the value of using Cable-Tec Expo as a platform to share their insights," said Chris Bastian, senior vice president, engineering, and CTO of the SCTE/ISBE. "Kevin Hart and the entire Expo Program Committee worked overtime to ensure that the Fall Technical Forum will include the very best and most relevant technical presentations from a bumper crop of submissions."

Among the workshop topics at Expo will be:

  • The state of the art in FTTH deployments and operational impacts of Distributed Access Architectures (DAA)
  • Customer benefits from artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • An in-depth discussion of industry adoption of high dynamic range (HDR) and the implications for cable
  • A wide view of wireless, including DOCSIS, 5G, and the future of broadband connectivity, as well as insights on WiFi access points that dynamically self-adapt
  • IoT presentations on SCTE/ISBE standards work and the low power wide area (LPWA) networks that will play a key role in the connection of IoT devices
  • Hybrid cloud solutions that enable scale and low latency and a rundown on virtual CMTS innovation
  • The state of the art in video piracy and techniques that operators can use to combat it
