Charter Communications (NASDAQ:CHTR) has launched Spectrum Internet Gig to an additional 4 million-plus homes. The new launches cover more than a dozen new markets, including Cleveland and Toledo, OH; Erie, PA; Orlando, FL; Springfield, MA; Bowling Green, KY; Charleston, SC; and Hartford, CT.

Like previous Charter gigabit Internet (actual top speeds are 940 Mbps) deployments, the new expansion is based on DOCSIS 3.1. The company started deploying DOCSIS 3.1 on Oahu in Hawaii last December and has continued in waves since then.

Charter says Spectrum Internet Gig is now offered to more than 27 million homes, more than halfway to the company's goal of making gigabit connections available to virtually its entire 41-state footprint. Charter expects to deploy in several more cities by Labor Day.

The company has also introduced Spectrum Business Internet Gig for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in every market where gigabit is available to residential consumers.

Spectrum Business Internet Gig includes features such as WiFi for lobbies and customer waiting areas, custom domain and email addresses, and cloud backup and security software at no additional charge, with no contracts.
