The cable industry is well aware of the growing importance of over-the-top (OTT) content services to their subscriber base. In fact, it seems a week doesn’t go by without a new report that shortens the predicted market life-span of traditional video services as the switch to content from OTT sources increases its momentum.
Cable operators have had to respond to such competition, with a growing number deciding to fight fire with fire. As more traditional service providers jump into the space, the challenges they face with regards to OTT have begun to evolve. A recent survey on OTT strategies reported that the currently top-of-mind challenges befit a more mature approach to OTT, one that reflects a growing comfort with such service provision within the context of operators’ traditional business practices.
