Vecima touts Remote PHY win with U.S. Tier 1 MSO

March 16, 2023
The cable MSO will deploy the ERM3 as part of a 10G upgrade what Vecima termed “a substantial portion” of its HFC network.

Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX: VCM) says it has won a deal to supply what it would identify only as “a Major Tier 1 US Service Provider” with the vendor’s Entra Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) ERM3 Remote PHY Devices. The cable MSO will deploy the ERM3 as part of a 10G upgrade what Vecima termed “a substantial portion” of its HFC network.

Vecima’s ERM3 Remote PHY Device (RPD) is designed to enable direct installation in three of the most widely deployed third-party nodes in North America as well as Vecima’s previously announced EN9000 Generic Access Platform (GAP) node. The ERM3 supports 1x1, 1x2, 2x2, and 2x4 service group configurations.

“Operators and Vecima are united in our mission to deliver 10G broadband speeds to people everywhere. This engagement is focused on unlocking the fiber-like capacity available through incremental upgrades to existing HFC plant,” said Sumit Kumar, Vecima’s president and CEO. “Our Entra products seamlessly interoperate with widely deployed legacy platforms and are designed to be efficiently and cost-effectively operationalized.

“Our expanding partnership with this operator highlights our laser focus on providing technology and services that help our partners execute their strategies,” Kumar continued. “Vecima is proud to partner with one of the world’s leading operators as it empowers communities with the networks that are the foundation of global progress.”

At the Cablelabs 10G Showcase last May, Charter Communications leveraged Vecima’s Remote MACPHY technology in the form of its Entra EN8400 Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) node (see "Cablelabs 10G Showcase demos portend expanded DOCSIS 4.0 deployments").
