Teleste adds 1.8-GHz amplifiers to ICON portfolio

Oct. 7, 2021
Teleste expects lab trials of the new ICON3100 1.8-GHz line extender and ICON4300 1.8-GHz system amplifier to begin in the first quarter of next year, with field trials beginning later in 2022.

Teleste has unveiled prototypes of a pair of 1.8-GHz intelligent amplifiers. Hanno Narjus, CEO of Teleste Intercept and head of Teleste’s network business, said he expects lab trials of the new ICON3100 1.8-GHz line extender and ICON4300 1.8-GHz system amplifier to begin in the first quarter of next year, with field trials beginning later in 2022.

The amplifiers are designed to support DOCSIS 4.0 deployments but are designed to enable an evolution toward such a goal by supporting lower-frequency networks as well. Both 1.8-GHz/684-MHz amplifiers feature automatic level and slope control for downstream and upstream requirements. They support pushbutton automatic alignment for initial installation and split changes as well as lowered power consumption via the company’s Power Save technology. They support wired and wireless configurations. An optional transponder enables remote monitoring and control as well as network diagnostics.

Narjus told reporters on a call this morning that the systems are designed with a level of intelligence that will support levels of plug-and-play functionality beyond what most North American operators are accustomed to using. He added that he was about to embark on a road trip to show off the prototypes to potential North American customers ahead of next year’s expected lab trials. He declined to reveal whether the company had delivered prototypes to any potential customers already.
