According to the fourth week of data from the NCTA's COVID-19 Internet Dashboard, national peak broadband growth (both downstream and upstream) has essentially plateaued.

The past few weeks' data suggested a plateau, but at that time the NCTA said it wanted more data to confirm the trend. The NCTA expects to see some variation in peak demand increases (or decreases) from week to week among certain states and regions, but overall the national pattern appears consistent and indicates that cable networks are more than capable of handling the increased demand.

The Internet Dashboard includes aggregated data from cable Internet service providers across America.

In looking at the broadband metrics for this week, and comparing over the past few, the national trend indicated in past weeks has continued. This week's key takeaways include:

  • National downstream peak growth has shown some slight decline over the past three weeks, down 2.2% since the week of March 28-April 4. Overall, since March 1, national downstream peak growth is up 17.8%.
  • National upstream peak growth has remained generally level over the past two weeks, up less than 1% each week since April 4. Overall, since March 1, national upstream peak growth is up 35%.
