The Harmonic ViBE 4K Encoder is built on the company's ViBE EM4000 premium encoder chassis. The product enables media enterprises to leverage HEVC with live compression of UltraHD sources at up to 60 frames per second and in 10-bit color.

The ViBE 4K Encoder is housed in a 1RU chassis and features multiple Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and 3G-SDI interfaces to receive live UltraHD feeds for encoding. It also offers a 60p frame rate and 10-bit precision, which leads to more accurate color gradients. Harmonic says native support for HEVC encoding provides bandwidth savings of more than 50% compared with H.264 standard. Latency is reduced to less than a second, and the maximum encoding bitrate is increased to 160 Mbps.

Harmonic says the ViBE 4K Encoder takes UltraHD uncompressed signals in and provides 4:2:2 10-bit encoding in real time using HEVC, aka H.265. The ViBE is compatible with HDR solutions and offers support for the ITU 1886, Hybrid Log-Gamma, SMPTE 2084 HDR standards.
