Managing blackouts, such as for sports content, is difficult in an IP video environment because video providers have lacked the visibility into whether a blackout was properly executed. They have had to use time-intensive, manual processes to confirm each blackout. SwitchStream Alternate Content 2.0 solves this problem, by allowing operators to provide alternate content in blackout situations and execute market protection for schedule changes. Operators can move content origination points during consolidation and deploy new IP services without worrying about regionalized content re-origination regardless of platform or changes to the network.
SwitchStream supports both Title VI video streams and QAM-based digital TV platforms, which eliminates the need for duplicating management efforts across platforms and increases visibility of alternate content execution. The solution also supports CableLabs Real-Time Event Signaling and Management (ESAM) API and in-band signaling of blackout information using the SCTE Digital Program Insertion Cueing Message for Cable standard.
