With 4K TVs now on the market, operators looking to offer some content specific to these devices can leverage TelVue's Hypercaster 4K, one Diamonds judge said. He noted the product is based on a "friendly" Linux system for easy integration and that it can serve up an IP stream for consumer-owned devices.
The Hypercaster 4K IP broadcast server combines 4K/UltraHD broadcast capability with the HyperCaster's IP-based workflows and all-digital outputs. With IP origination, no encoders are needed. The server supports MPEG-2 transport with MPEG-2 or H.264 video codecs in SD, HD or UltraHD formats.

An IP over Gigabit Ethernet interface can be integrated with copper or fiber network architectures. The output can be used by industry-standard IP-to-QAM modulators. Optional upgrades include an integrated IP-to-baseband decoder, which is compatible with SDI workflows and makes the Hypercaster capable of automatically up- or down-converting the media library to the designated output format. And an IP StreamThru feature allows the Hypercaster to double as an IP switcher so that the server can rebroadcast another IP video stream on schedule or as default continuity.
