The ProView 8100 is a single-channel commercial decoder and descrambler designed to optimize primary distribution of video content over satellite or IP delivery networks. The decoding platform includes high-end IRD features, including simultaneous HD-SDI and SD-SDI output with download conversion. This allows service providers to power HD and SD production changes with a single device, which helps maximize workflow efficiencies and cost savings, Harmonic says.
With the ProView 8100, service providers can receive DVB-S/S2, IP or ASI signals, decode SD and HD MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC transport streams to baseband, descramble encrypted programs, and output content to analog or digital. Built-in frame rate conversion enables content shot at 50 Hz to be distributed at 60 Hz or vice versa eliminating the need for a separate, stand-alone frame-rate converter. The product is housed in a 1RU chassis and can be repurposed via firmware upgrades for different uses and new applications, including migration from SD MPEG-2 to HD AVC. In addition to noting this feature would protect an operator's investment, one Diamonds judge called it "downright cool."
