The Fabrix VIDFX is a scale-out, cloud-based storage and computing platform built using the converged cloud architecture resources principle and applied to cloud DVR and VOD applications. It is software-based, which the company says makes the storage and computing platform capable of supporting all cloud DVR and VOD applications, even a hybrid implementation where some recordings are private and others are shared.
The VIDFX can scale to support hundreds of petabytes of video storage and "massive" amounts of concurrent recordings and playouts, Fabrix says. It is compatible with any mix of x86 generic server, integrates into back office systems, and supports ad insertion. Operators can configure hardware to match their workload with no vendor lock-in.

One Diamonds judge dubbed the VIDFX a very useful product, especially for small- to medium-sized operators, while another said the platform offers MSOs a quick path to providing DVR services to customers with their own devices. This, he said, "addresses a huge need for these folks."
