The goal of the G4 STB client is to help operators design and build a user experience that exceeds subscriber expectations, Espial says. Based on HTML5 and the Reference Design Kit (RDK), the G4 STB Client allows operators to achieve cloud user experience (UX) delivery for web-speed service innovations, and provides a standard cable operating bundle that enables faster time to market for set-top boxes.
Specifically, the G4 STB Client is based on a modular architecture and provides customizable HTML5/CSS implementation of core video applications with graphically rich and intuitive remote control navigation. By leveraging metadata, the G4 integrates points for social media and third party applications.
Diamonds judges said the G4 gives operators who don't have the resources to build their own STB user interfaces an alternative to the ones currently deployed. They called the fact that Espial is aiming for a "solid" software stack that MSOs can take on themselves or with a partner of choice an "important option to have available."
