Alticast's HDMI Media Express is a set-top box on a stick that works with a home gateway to securely deliver programming to any TV and also has the potential to go anywhere using a cloud-based delivery model for VOD and MSO-provided live TV. The product supports multiple business models. An operator can create a closed or open platform to their customer base, either directly or through a retail model, for example. The provider also could "white label" the service by branding it and providing a personal solution.
The Alticast Application Framework lets both Android and HTML5 applications run in the same environment so the MSO can offer other apps alongside the portal to their own content library. The HDMI Media Express leverages the company's TV Ready User Agent and the Reference Design Kit (RDK). The company says these software-driven features make it easy for MSOs to decide how and what to deliver to their subscribers.
