Midco has launched its DOCSIS 3.1-based Midco Xstream Gig Internet service in its Huron and Yankton markets in eastern South Dakota, as well as seven surrounding communities. The gigabit service is available to both residential and business customers.

The MSO says Xstream Gig is now available to more than 50% of its customers. Midco's goal is to deploy the service in 80% of its markets this year. In late May, the company launched the service in Bemidji in northern Minnesota. Other recent deployments include markets in both North and South Dakota. Midco's first DOCSIS 3.1 launch was in Fargo, ND, in March.

Early deployments are based on Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) cBR-8 CCAP gear, as well as modems from ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) and Hitron Technologies. Midco plans to add other vendors' DOCSIS 3.1 modems as they become available.
