The SCTE/ISBE has launched an online course on DOCSIS 3.1 installation.

"DOCSIS 3.1 Installation" is intended to increase technical proficiency for broadband installation professionals by offering background in DOCSIS 3.1, a comparison with previous versions of DOCSIS, and a technical overview of the new specification, as well as an understanding of operational implications, procedures for installation, and methods of troubleshooting.

Modeled after the SCTE/ISBE's DOCSIS 3.1 onsite Boot Camp for Engineers, the new course for the field is available as an eight-hour, eight-module online program. "DOCSIS 3.1 Installation" is targeted toward both independent cable and MSO technical professionals, including mid- to senior-level data technicians, maintenance and installation technicians, and technical operation (TechOp) managers. Attendees must have DOCSIS experience.

"The overwhelmingly positive feedback we received from our onsite Boot Camps underscored the demand for intensified year-round training on DOCSIS 3.1, FTTx, and wireless," said Reni Gorman, vice president, learning and development for SCTE/ISBE. "'DOCSIS 3.1 Installation' will give our industry's workforce the business, technology, and deployment knowledge they need to maximize the potential of one of cable telecommunications' game-changing technologies."

The course is designed to provide participants with a business and technology overview of the DOCSIS 3.1 specification and a solid foundation in such areas as signal processing, capacity, and upstream and downstream configurations. In addition, the course covers physical and MAC layer modifications; DOCSIS 3.1 operations; proactive network maintenance features; DOCSIS 3.1 installation; and troubleshooting.
