Cox, Comcast execs to lead NCTA board

Pat Esser, president of Cox Communications, was elected as chairman of the NCTA's board of directors on April 4 in New York. Dave Watson, president and CEO of Comcast Cable and EVP of Comcast Corp., was elected vice chairman.

In addition, Gary Shorman, president and CEO of Eagle Communications, was elected treasurer; and Bob Bakish, president and CEO of Viacom, was elected secretary.

Other board elections included:

  • Associate Director: Frank Drendel, chairman of CommScope Holding Company, was reelected to serve another two-year term.
  • At-Large Programmer Directors: David Nevins, president and CEO of Showtime Networks, and Bob Bakish were elected to serve two-year terms.
  • Rural/Midsize Directors: In March 2018, Dick Sjoberg, president and CEO of Sjoberg's, and Gary Shorman were reelected to serve two-year terms.

Other directors new to the NCTA Board are John Pascarelli, EVP of operations at Mediacom Communications, and Jimmy Pitaro, president of ESPN and co-chairman of Disney Media Networks. In addition, Abbe Raven, acting chairman of A+E Networks, was named to fill an at-large appointed director seat.

Other directors on the NCTA board were not subject to reelection.
