Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) is increasing the speeds of some of its Xfinity Internet service packages for video and Internet customers in Oregon and southwest Washington.

Speed increases will vary based on customers' current speed subscriptions and are expected to go live later this month.

The upgrades range from a jump from 60 Mbps to 150 Mbps for the Performance Plus/Saver, Double, Triple or Quadruple Play packages to an increase from 250 Mbps to 1 Gbps for the Blast! Pro/Preferred and Premier, Quadruple Play packages.

"These increases demonstrate our commitment to delivering unparalleled service to our customers, now featuring more speed than ever before," said Rodrigo Lopez, regional senior vice president of Comcast's Oregon/SW Washington region. "We're focused on providing a great customer experience by making our technology products easy to get and simple to use. Once again, we are able to offer our customers the speeds they want, when they want them."

To get the increased speeds, most customers will simply need to re-start their modems when notified by Comcast that the new speed is available. Comcast will also notify customers who may need to upgrade their modems to receive the increased speeds. Those who own their own modems and need to upgrade them to receive the increased speeds will need to purchase a new one or can lease a new modem from Comcast.

Customers who lease modems from Comcast can upgrade their modem for no additional charge.

In other Comcast news, the company is firming up its offer to buy UK-based Sky, first announced in February. The actual offer has not yet been made.

Brian L. Roberts, chairman and CEO of Comcast, said: "We are delighted to be formalizing our offer for Sky today. We have long believed Sky is an outstanding company and a great fit with Comcast. Sky has a strong business, excellent customer loyalty, and a valued brand. It is led by a terrific management team who we look forward to working with to build and grow this business."
