The SCTE/ISBE has appointed four subject matter experts (SMEs) as non-voting observers of the SCTE/ISBE board of directors and as chairs of select board committees for the current year.

The appointments include the naming of Dave Fellows, co-founder and CTO, Layer3 TV, a T-Mobile company, as chair of the Engineering Committee, and expanded roles as SMEs for three existing committee chairs: Jim Hughes, vice president, North American MSO Sales, CommScope, Governance and Nomination Committees; Andy Parrott, senior vice president, Operations, Altice Technical Services, Learning & Development Committee; and Dr. Martha Soehren, chief talent development officer and senior vice president, Comcast, Compensation Committee and Learning & Development SME.

"Last year's report by the Cable Industry Organization Review Committee underscored SCTE/ISBE's significant contributions to our industry," said Bill Warga, vice president, Technology, for Liberty Global and chairman of the SCTE/ISBE board. "As leaders in their fields and as longtime contributors to SCTE/ISBE, they all are well-positioned to provide expert insights to ensure the Society remains aligned with the needs of the industry in the years ahead."

A winner of the Vanguard Award for Technology, Dave Fellows has helped advance the industry's technological growth as CTO of Comcast, AT&T Broadband, and numerous other cable operators, as an investor and as a consultant. His contributions with SCTE/ISBE include founding and serving as longtime chairman of the Data Standards Subcommittee and serving as chief scientist of SCTE/ISBE's Energy 2020 program.

Throughout his career, Jim Hughes has been an active contributor to organizations responsible for implementation of new technologies. Hughes served on the NCTA Engineering Committee, was vice president and fundraising chairman of the SCTE Foundation Board of Directors, and most recently was secretary of the SCTE/ISBE board.

As corporate vice president of Suddenlink, Andy Parrott integrated SCTE/ISBE learning and development programs into Suddenlink training, boosting workforce expertise and contributing to measureable improvements in customer satisfaction. As L&D chairman, he has continued to drive the creation of programs to improve workforce skills and knowledge and deliver value for the industry.

During 18 years with Comcast, Martha Soehren has established herself as a leader in workforce education and career advancement. She recently served on the SCTE/ISBE Board of Directors, where her insights were instrumental in shaping development of the Society's CORTEX Expert Development System.

The four new advisors are expected to attend the SCTE/ISBE's next board meeting on Feb. 8 in Denver.
