Calix has built the first software-defined 10G-EPON system. Leveraging the company’s open AXOS platform, software-defined 10G-EPON is faster to deploy and easier to maintain and upgrade than traditional PON.

The Calix Software Defined 10G-EPON system, the first software-defined 10G-EPON system, has been named a finalist in the FTTH/Optical Access Platforms category. Leveraging the company’s open AXOS platform, software-defined 10G-EPON is faster to deploy and easier to maintain and upgrade than traditional PON. The Calix 10G EPON approach supports centralized and distributed deployments, embedded "everything-on-the-box" implementations, and disaggregated systems targeted to scalable data center-inspired operations. The system also can ease the transition from traditional DOCSIS to software-defined networking (SDN) architectures with virtualized functions.
