Net Insight has added HEVC coding capabilities to its Nimbra VA 225 video encoder/decoder and transport solution, and also has introduced an OTT ad insertion solution.

The Nimbra VA family of video appliances is intended to enable broadcasters and content owners to deliver content over the Internet [http://www.broadbandtechreport.com/internet.html] and other low-cost IP infrastructures. The products feature H.264 and HEVC multi-channel codecs along with integrated Internet transport.

"The use of the Internet for live professional broadcast production is disrupting the media transport industry," said Martin Karlsson, CTO and vice president, product portfolio, of Net Insight. "With the Nimbra VA 225, our customers can reach content from a multitude of sources at a cost point that was previously unattainable. This opens a whole new market where niche and local content can be monetized."

At the NAB Show, the company demonstrated the server-side ad insertion capabilities of its Sye live OTT streaming solution at the NAB show. The ad insertion extension is in first customer trials, and is expected to be commercially available in Q4 2017.

The server-side ad insertion service was designed specifically for OTT platforms and frame-accurate ad-splicing. It also includes reporting of video ad metrics, such as number of impressions, quartiles, and average view times.

"The combination of a more immersive live OTT experience and dynamic and personalized ads results in a stickiness and increases the monetization benefits of live OTT," said Per Lindgren, SVP, live OTT, at Net Insight.
