Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) is more than doubling the speed of its Performance 25 Xfinity Internet tier for existing customers in the Twin Cities area in Minnesota and also in the Kansas City area at no additional cost. The rebranded Performance Plus tier features downstream speeds of up to 55 Mbps. In addition, current Performance Internet tier customers are being upgraded from 50 Mbps to up to 70 Mbps at no additional cost. The new speeds are effective immediately.

"These increases reflect our commitment to bring faster Internet speeds to our customers, just like we've done almost every year for more than a decade," said Jeff Freyer, regional vice president, Comcast Twin Cities. "Our goal is to deliver a great value and superior online experience for our customers. Whether gaming, streaming HD videos, or connecting multiple devices at the same time, we want to ensure they have the speeds they need."

Customers may need to restart their modems to get the new speeds. Comcast will also notify customers who may need to upgrade their modems to receive the increased speeds. Customers who lease modems from Comcast can receive upgraded modems at no additional charge. Customers who own their own modems and need to upgrade to receive the increased speeds will need to purchase a new modem or can lease a new one from Comcast.
