Mediacom Communications has launched DOCSIS 3.1-based gigabit Internet service across its entire Iowa footprint, covering nearly 1 million households in more than 300 communities.

Commisso. "As a result of these investments, I am extremely proud to announce that Iowa is not only Mediacom's first gigabit state, but now leads all U.S. states in gigabit broadband availability."
In December, Mediacom announced plans to transition to DOCSIS 3.1 across its 22-state footprint. Today's launch includes Iowa and portions of western Illinois. As DOCSIS 3.1 cable modems become more readily available, Mediacom will announce additional 1 Gbps Internet launches on a market-by-market basis throughout the remainder of the year. In conjunction with each gigabit announcement, Mediacom will also be introducing a new 500 Mbps tier of service.

The deployments are based on the C100G Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP) from Casa Systems and the Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) cBR-8 next-gen CCAP.
