Faroudja Enterprises says it has been granted a new patent titled "De-blocking and De-banding Filter with Adjustable Filter Strength for Video and Image Processing." US Patent No. 9,445,131 describes technology to eliminate "blocking" or "banding" artifacts common to Internet video.
The technology is intended to reduce banding artifacts, without diminishing details and edges. It examines large regions of uniform value with small variations, commonly introduced in the early stages of compression. The technology is designed to eradicate artifacts via processing without affecting the resolution of the image.
