Consolidated Communications (NASDAQ:CNSL) has launched gigabit Internet services in parts of its California service territory. Consolidated has expanded 1 Gbps service availability to 16,000 fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) customers in the Roseville, CA, area. The 1 Gig package is available to new and existing customers for $69.95 per month.
"Our customer's expectation for instant access to online content, such as videos, music and games, and the desire to power an increasing number of devices in the home continues to grow," said Rob Koester, vice president of consumer products for Consolidated Communications. "We're thrilled to be able to meet these demands as we invest in our network and bring gigabit speeds to more homes across the region. We're starting with 16,000 homes in Roseville and will add new areas as regional facilities are upgraded."
Roseville is Consolidated's third gigabit market. The company previously launched 1 Gbps Internet Speeds in Kansas City, KS, in 2014 and Houston, TX, in 2015. Prior to those launches, Consolidated's top Internet speed was 100 Mbps over its FTTH network.
In 2012, Consolidated bought cable operator SureWest Communications, acquiring 130,000 residential subscribers and 15,700 commercial businesses in the Kansas City and Sacramento areas. Consolidated also operates in Illinois, Pennsylvania and Texas.
