At IBC In Amsterdam, AirTies Wireless Networks unveiled an in-home WiFi system intended to enable operators to monetize WiFi as a premium service.

Unlike traditional WiFi, which relies on a single access point (AP) from a router/gateway, AirTies' system uses multiple APs placed around the home to create a mesh network for consistent whole-home Internet coverage. The centrepiece of the new system is the Air 4830 AP, which is designed to support simultaneous streams of 4K/UltraHD video, and emerging in-home devices and services (for example, smart monitoring, home security, virtual reality, IoT, etc.) from operators.

The Air 4830 units connect to each other wirelessly using AirTies' WiFi Mesh, which creates alternate data paths between multiple APs. The new units re designed to support 2 Gbps total wireless speed, with 4x4 11ac Wave 2 Mu-MIMO technology at 5 GHz simultaneously with 2x2 11n technology at 2.4 GHz. Air 4830s include AirTies' Client Steering technology to ensure devices continually connect to the best available access point and frequency bands based on real-time network usage. In addition, the system supports AirTies Remove View version 1.0, a cloud-based, beta in-home performance monitoring system to support installers and network engineering teams. Air 4830 is expected to be commercially available by the end of this year.
