Google Fiber (NASDAQ:GOOG) has announced plans to deploy in Huntsville, AL. Rather than build a network from scratch, the search giant will be working with a municipally owned fiber network in Huntsville. Pending final approvals, Huntsville Utilities will design and construct the physical network. Once the network is built, Google Fiber - or any other broadband provider - will be able to bring high-speed Internet service to the city. Timelines have not yet been set.

Google Fiber currently offers its gigabit-capable FTTH service in Provo, UT; Kansas City (the first Google Fiber market); and Austin, TX. In addition to Huntsville, the company is building in Salt Lake City, San Antonio, Nashville, Atlanta, and Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte, NC. Other cities under consideration include Chicago; Los Angeles; Portland, OR; San Jose, Irvine and San Diego, CA; Phoenix; Oklahoma City; Louisville, KY; and Jacksonville and Tampa, FL.
