AFL has introduced the Fujikura 21S, a mid-range fusion fiber splicer that uses active cladding alignment via movable v-grooves to reduce splicing errors caused by dust and other contaminants. It also features removable sheath clamps and a 4.7-inch LCD monitor and is compatible with AFL's FuseConnect fusion spliced field installable connectors.

The chassis is designed for shock, dust and moisture protection and features a two-camera observation system for fiber alignment and loss estimation calculations. The battery is designed to provide power for up to 200 splice cycles with application of the splice protection sleeve. Software updates are available via the Internet.
