ARRIS MSP Media Services Platform with BVS (Broadcast Services) Application

Oct. 2, 2012
The Diamonds judges applauded the ARRIS MSP-BVS high-density video processor as "very useful" and the "first of its kind," which "sets the standard for others to follow." Designed for use with ARRIS' MSP (Media Services Platform) 2800, the MSP-BVS, expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2012, brings to the table high-density video processing with advanced media processing, broadcast applications and zoned splicing. Each card supports 96 MPTS or 620 SPTS ingress + egress.
Some of the capabilities that the MSP-BVS adds to the MSP platform are rate shaping, rate clamping and splicing. When combined in a single product, this triple play offers increased flexibility and power, ARRIS says.Specifically, with rate shaping, the blade delivers an output transport stream from multiple independent input streams. The input bitrate can exceed the output bitrate by as much as 35%. Scheduling techniques are used to resolve the discrepancy. For rate clamping, the MSP-BVS builds an output transport stream at a constant bitrate from a single input stream. Here, the input bitrate can be higher or lower than the intended output bitrate. This is accounted for with bit-reduction or video padding techniques. As for splicing, the MSP-BVS uses SPRA and MPTS splicing for MPEG-2 and MPEG-4, SD and HD-formatted video. As a whole, ARRIS bills the MSP 2800 multi-services platform as a way for operators to quickly add new applications and share bandwidth. The solution also is known for its flexible blade design.www.arrisi.comSee them at Cable-Tec EXPO, Booth 2802Return to the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews Elite.
